Outline of Job:

The job of the systems installation inspector is to monitor work carried out on various construction / Metro sites to ensure safety and quality is upheld and ensuring the installation reflects the approved design drawings. They will need to carry out regular inspections, checking quality of work, searching out any defects / snags, and then reporting all findings to the construction management team. 

Daily Activities:
  • Working with a host of operatives including engineers and supervisors
  • Monitoring systems installation process from start to finish
  • Checking quality of work
  • Ensuring installation and material usage follow approved design plans and installation drawings
  • Ensuring all works on site are carried out to an approved method statement
  • Daily reporting to the construction management team
  • Checking for any snags / defects
  • Making sure building / railway regulations and health and safety regulations are adhered to
  • Making sure all documentation on site is approved and up to date
  • Able to monitor installation progress against programme making sure key milestones are hit
  • Carrying out daily inspections on construction sites and ensuring material are properly protected and good housekeeping is kept at all times
     
Experience and Skills Required:
  • A degree in electrical or mechanical engineering would be advantageous but not essential
  • Good knowledge of Rail / Metro systems with a minimum 5 years’ experience in installations on rail systems projects
  • Must have a minimum 3 years supervisory experience
  • Good knowledge of Rail Systems components and installation requirements for at least one of the following subsystems:
  • Signalling: cabinets, axle counter, point machine, signals, tags, and related cabling works, etc…
  • Telecom: CCTV, ACS, IDAS, Radio (TETRA), Fire Detection System, Backbone network, Public Address, Passenger Information Systems, and related cabling works etc…
  • SCADA: Operating Control Centre workstations, servers and racks installation and related cabling works.
  • Automatic Fare Collection: Gate, Ticket Vending Machine and related cabling works…
  • Tunnel Ventilation Systems: Jet Fans, Axial Fans, Dampers, Air Handling Unit, electrical cabinets and cabling, etc…
  • Platform Screen Doors: Full height PSD, motorized doors, fixed panel, emergency exit doors, related cabling and isolation requirements, etc.
  • Must be fluent in English with good written and oral communication skills
  • Must have good attention to detail
  • Must be organised and have a practical approach to any issues arising on site
  • Must be familiar with different international standards relating to railway regulations and H&S regulations
  • Being able to effectively communicate with team members
  • Able to work with a range of multi-disciplined operatives / engineers
  • A good understanding of technical plans / drawings is essential
  • Must be able to endure being on site for several hours in very hot climate conditions
