Job Description


The Route 2020 project consists of an extension of the existing Dubai Metro Red line by 15km and 7 stations. The Design & Build contract includes civil works, track, rolling stock and all systems. It was awarded in July 2016, for completion in April 2020. Systra was nominated as the Engineer by RTA, in charge of contract administration, design review, supervision of works and testing.



Within the Engineer’s team, the OCS/SCADA engineer will be part of the rail systems team, particularly in charge of supervising the works of the contractor with respect to control systems:

  • Operation Control Room
  • Supervision Network
  • Maintenance Management System

The OCS is in interface with all other subsystems, therefore the OCS Engineer will have intense interaction with all other disciplines.

The tasks of the OCS/SCADA engineer are:

  • Review the pre-final and final design issued by the Contractor, verify compliance to Employer Requirements as well as standards and best practice
  • Liaise with the Operator and RTA Operations department to ensure their needs are covered
  • Review compatibility of the new system with the one currently in operation
  • Attend factory acceptance tests abroad
  • Manage a small team of inspectors in charge of the supervision of site installation
  • Actively participate in the interface resolution process
  • Supervise the migration of OCS system and the integration


  • The role reports to the OCS Lead Engineer


  • At least B.Sc, preferably in electronics or similar discipline


Key skills:
  • Previous experience of large scale, multiline Metro Operational Control Centers
  • Systems / Electrical / Control Systems Engineer by training
  • 5-10 year’s experience in as similar role
  • Knowledge of Metro Control Center layouts, ergonomics and operations.
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety, SIL based systems – IEC 61508
  • Knowledge of ‘Top Down’ design approach, systems interfaces and integration
  • Knowledge of ISO standard 11064, Parts 1-4 : Ergonomic design of Control Centers
  • Knowledge of Office Furniture Ergonomics ref BS-EN-527-1 (2011)
