Marks 50th anniversary of Mercedes-AMG; just five units to be built
Mercedes-AMG has turned 50 and to mark the occasion, the brand has revealed this awesome Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 at the Nürburgring 24-hour race. Just five units will be built and each will be finished in a bespoke grey paint scheme never seen before on an AMG car with black highlights and lots of “50 years AMG” and “50 years of driving performance” branding all over the body. If that wasn’t enough, it comes with a free watch - the 50th Anniversary of Mercedes‑AMG timepiece from IWC Schaffhausen.
Based on the Mercedes-AMG GT3 race car, it naturally has loads of carbon fibre parts such as front diffuser, grille, air intakes, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear wing. We love the contrasting black stripes on the bonnet while the cabin continues the lightweight theme with carbon-fibre accents throughout; the dash, sills, door panels, and centre console are all finished in matte black carbon-fibre and the silver-coloured six-point seat belts and racing steering wheel break it up nicely. Inside, it also packs a race-spec roll cage and switchgear with a digital instrument cluster and there’s a nameplate in there (‘Edition 50 – 1 of 5’) to remind you how special the car is.
As for power, an open performance exhaust system has been added to help the AMG-tuned 6.3-litre V8 mated to a six-speed sequential racing transmission breathe more easily. And, with the elimination of the restrictor, optimised performance is guaranteed although an official output figure hasn’t been revealed.
