The Ford Mustang started off as a concept car, namely the 1962 Ford Mustang 1. It was then introduced by Ford Motor Company at the World's Fair in New York. Named after the P51 Mustang fighter plane from World War II, the initial Mustang design was based on the compact Ford Falcon.

The Mustang has undergone several transformations and updates to its current sixth generation. Ford made sure to give the Mustang massive attention by updating and improving every aspect of the car, year after the other.

In 1966, during the first generation Ford Mustang, sales passed the 1 million mark. One year after, The Shelby GT500 was introduced with a V8 engine that produces 355 horsepower. The success continued in the first generation with different models being introduced.

The second generation was introduced in 1974 and the Mustang II was introduced. It was completely redesigned from inside out. Changes included a nearly 500 pounds lighter and 19 inches shorter body compared to previous models. There was no Mustang convertible and no V-8 engine option for the first time in the Mustang's history.
